Anteriormente se habían encontrado municiones dentro del Cayo. Se advierte a lodos los residentes y turistas a mantenerse fuera del Cayo y las aguas adyacentes. Los letreros presentes en el Cayo serán actualizados para reflejar esta nueva información. Nuevas hojas sueltas serán distribuidas en la isla.

Madeline Rivera, Vieques Site Manager of the Navy, and Kevin Cloe, co-director of the Navy in the meetings of the Restoration Advisory Board (RAB for its acronym in English) reported during the meeting held on February 23, 2011 in Vieques , that as recently as this February old munitions were found in the waters around the Pepsi Cola Cayo or Cayo La Chiva. Previously old munitions were found inside the key. It is advised that all residents and tourists stay clear of the Cayo and adjacent waters. Signs placed by the Navy and currently present in the key will be updated to reflect this new information. New flyers will be distributed on the island.
